amazing what random thoughts cross your mind when you’re in the presence of fluorescent, pink skies!
It’s funny to personify the beach, but the beautiful shores of Mazatlán are quickly becoming a dear friend and companion every day. It really has felt like a solve to every emotion I’ve felt since arriving in a different place and life this past month. Need a breather? Head to the beach. Hunting for inspiration? Take 10 at the beach. Escaping the 8 girls I share 1 room with? The beach is calling! p.s. the girls are lovely, but y’know, one needs the occasional few moments alone every so often.
Fortunately for me, our building is located right across the street from the seashore! I try and take a daily stroll down the sand, or at least spend my quiet time in the mornings sitting on the rocks to take in the magnificent waves. Whether it’s in the morning with the joggers and fishermen, or at sunset with the families and photographers, the coastal view is pretty marvel-worthy.
We had 30 minutes to observe nature and ID something we saw about God’s character in it. I painted the sky and ocean playing off of one another. Both giant forces of nature, but neither actually work alone. They show each other off– the sky illuminating the waves, the water reflecting the lovely blue that the sky is that day. In Genesis 1 the sky was literally formed for the seas. What a brilliant display of all of creation purely existing to bring Him glory, and working together to do so.
This week was spent learning from a wonderful Chilean speaker about the Character and Nature of God as a Creator.
We delved into:
Genesis 1 aka the creation story
co-creation among the Trinity, and in turn, co-creation between God and us
the divine DNA that we inherited from the One that made these breath-taking oceans
God as a creator, creative, innovator, and multiplier
and what is required of us to get out of the way to make way for our intended selves to execute good, excellent work to bring about worship and life to others.
THICK STUFF. RICH STUFF. It was probably the first week that I really felt pushed and challenged in my considering of what makes a ‘good artist’.
I was tasked this week with making a thank you card for our guest speaker. This image came to me about mid-week during one of his talks. The meaning behind it being two-fold:
1. Co-creation displayed at it’s finest can be seen in the partnership between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (hence the triangle)
2. For artists, the primary colors are essential. I have a feeling primary red, blue, and yellow were created somewhere around Day 2 or 3 because the essence of these colors is that they cannot be created by anyone, but together they can make all the other colors that exist in the world, and more. How thoughtful was God that He so carefully crafted these three colors that hold so much power and creation DNA in themselves?!
The flora and fauna depicted are all things found specifically in Europe, a place our speaker and his family felt called to do missions in eventually.
